The Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates
EN:
Located about 2,5km west of the ancient town of Kourion, on the road that leads to Paphos, the sanctuary of Apollo Hylates was one of the main religious centers of ancient Cyprus, where Apollo was worshipped as god of the woodlands from as early as the 8th century BC until the 4th century AD. The site has undergone many extensions and alterations in different periods, and the majority of the monuments as they can be seen today belong to the site's first century AD restorations. Still, the sight today is a wonder that travels you back in time making it incredible to think that once upon a time people moved around these places as part of their daily routines. |
